My sketch came from a henna design that I typically use at work (I am a henna artist), I repeated the design four times to resemble a sort of "X" shape.
While piercing my work out, I broke 10 out of my 12 saw blades-I've learned not to put ANY pressure on the blade as I work. It was pretty frustrating that I would prep my saw for 5-10 minutes and only get 2-3 minutes of sawing with it. I did keep it well lubricated and eventually I got the hang of it.
My other frustration was that my work kept bending as I would saw which would slow me down a lot. I would hammer it flat with a rawhide hammer when it got bad.
I found the filing process to be relaxing and easy, i used magnifying glasses to make sure I didnt miss any spots. The sanding however was extremely tedious and altogether time consuming, I managed to get the majority of the deep scratches out of the work, but I'm not totally satisfied with my sanding job-I do think I will get better at it with time.
As for the sketchbook itself, I loved making it, it was simple and painless. I found beautiful paper to work with and foam-core as well. I made a little frame on it too. The only issue was that one of my bolts wouldnt screw in all the way.
Over all I really enjoyed the assignment, and I am really enjoying metals and jewelry.
